DO as you SAY, 言出必行

August 30, 2011 by iyeping

Would you do anything that you don’t know? Unless you’re an idiot, I don’t think you will attempt to do something that you don’t know. In the same way, would you say something that you don’t know? Unless you really do not know what you do not know, I don’t think you will say something that you don’t know, it will just reflect badly on you when your facts or figures don’t add up.

So, what do you do when you don’t know? Well, firstly you must come to realize that you don’t know, because you cannot learn something that you don’t know you don’t know. This is a difficult step, as people don’t like to admit that they don’t know. Let’s be honest, who wants to look like an idiot? Exactly, no one!

Unless we are able to take the first step to admit that we don’t know and needed to learn it or needed help, we will never get to the point of knowing. The learning process will never get underway to transition one from not knowing to knowing. Unfortunately, many of us function exactly this way, we are too proud to admit that we don’t know and need help! We refuse to listening, refuse to understanding and charge ahead with what we think best.

As committed as you are in doing a good job, this is seriously dangerous, as you don’t know if you’re heading the right direction that leads to success, or heading to the wrong direction that leads to failure. If you do what you don’t know, you will not be able to know what you say. In the same way, if you do what you know, you will know what you say.

Do what you know, know what you say, that’s the essence of DO as you SAY. People fail to do as they say it is really because they have not a clue what they are doing, don’t expect they know what they say!
